Overview

This IDC Government Insights Perspective presents a snapshot of the governments' implementation to their planned fiscal policy in light of the worldwide economic downturn for 2009. It updates Economic Stimulus and Expansionary Budgets: Tabulating the Government's Response to the Economic Downtown in Asia/Pacific (IDC #AP633101S, May 2009).

Even as economies of the Asia/Pacific countries recover, governments had pledged not to withdraw the economic stimulus packages abruptly and funds will continue to be invested through various initiatives through 2010. The rollover effects of the governments' stimulus packages have yet to be fully felt by the ICT industry. As governments are focused more on the implementation of fiscal spending measures and softening the impact of the economic downturn through tax policy changes and rebates in 2009, the ICT industry will begin to benefit from the upcoming projects in areas such as infrastructure development, health and education reforms, and smart city initiatives, in the year 2010 onward.
