Overview
This IDC Government Insights Perspective discusses two recent Canadian conferences that touched upon the notion of "government as a service" (GaaS). We appear to have entered an era of everything as a service: software as a service (SaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), and platform as a service (PaaS). Government as a service is about leveraging the cloud to cost-effectively, and scalably, extract value and drive innovation from government's large preexisting data sets, added to which are the ever-expanding information resources generated by social media, mobile, broadband utilization, and the consumerization of IT.
