Overview
Big Data is a new generation of technologies and architectures designed to economically extract value from very large volumes of a wide variety of data by enabling high-velocity capture, discovery, and/or analysis.
"Big Data represents a cultural shift in how government organizations operate. In this new paradigm, data becomes central to gain insights and corroborate decisions and opinions applied to innovate and enhance service delivery. Therefore, technology alone is not enough. A combination of tools, methodologies, and information management styles, and sources will need to be adopted," said Silvia Piai, research manager, IDC EMEA Government Insights.
