IDC Government Insights Releases Top 10 Predictions for EMEA Government in 2010
MILAN, Italy, March 1, 2010 – IDC Government Insights recently released a new report, which covers IDC Government Insights' top 10 predictions for the European, Middle Eastern, and African (EMEA) Government industry in 2010.
This IDC Government Insights report provides insight into the EMEA 2010 Top 10 Predictions. While 2009 presented a brutal reality check, 2010 will be a year of tough choices for public sector executives and elected officials. Jan A. Duffy, research director, EMEA IDC Government Insights said, "The government IT market is important to economies across EMEA, with a forecast value of $71.9 billion in 2010. This is very close to the value of a United States government market, which is forecast to be $72.9 billion in 2010. ICT is important to the effective management and delivery of public services and also to supporting economic stimulus programs. IDC Government Insights' Top 10 Predictions are focused on four key themes — paying down the public debt, keeping the public sector operating, ensuring that the public administration is 'fit for purpose,' and planning for a better future — that will underpin many of the actions taken by public sector executives in the coming 12 months."
To assist government organizations and suppliers to this market to make informed decisions, EMEA IDC Government Insights has identified the following 10 top predictions for 2010:
- Funding cuts will dictate the public service agenda.
- There will be increased attention on how money is being spent at all levels of government.
- Much effort will be focused on immediate improvements to existing public sector systems and processes, with minimal additional investment.
- Increased recognition of telecommunications and the Internet as critical to the economy and to service delivery will sustain investment.
- The word for 2010 will be rightsizing, underpinned by government transformation or modernization.
- Establishing priorities to guide rightsizing efforts will rise to the top of the administrative policy agenda.
- 2010 will see continued investigation of and experimentation with cloud computing and use of social media.
- Increased consideration will be given to new ideas about what really constitutes a public service and new ways of designing and delivering cross-functional services.
- Socioeconomic pressures will compel governments to consider service delivery options that were previously thought to be too difficult, too radical, too different.
- Governments will be required to change the way they manage themselves and public money — performance management will rise in significance.
